While working on this image of Lily, the amazing Irish Water Spaniel, Lily’s beautiful copper eyes jiggled my memory to tell you all about a rare event happening in Milwaukee – a dog/human walk to benefit Gilda’s Club of Southeastern Wisconsin – WOOF N HOOF.
Gilda’s Club is a non-profit organization that provides social and emotional support at no cost to people and families whose lives have been touched by cancer. Based in Shorewood, it’s a really fantastic organization. The Woof ‘n Hoof event is very fun with contests, food, local vendors at the “Bow Wow Bazaar” (I’ll be there with a booth!), raffles, etc. For the walk you can choose from 2 distances (1 or 2.5 miles), and its a very fun event! A complimentary “Barkfest” is available for your dog!
I participated there last year and had a great time meeting a number of women and their dogs, who are now part of my Dogs & Their Women book project! Stop by and ask me about the book or mention this blog and I’ll have something special for you AND your dog. Be sure to come early to find the best parking! Atwater School is located on 2100 East Capital Drive.
DATE: August 7
LOCATION: Atwater School – E. Capital Drive
TIME: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00p.m. (Last year the walk started around 9:00)
PARKING: Side streets and St. Robert’s School parking lot might be open
Dishes with fresh dog water will be available!
As for Lily – I LOVE how her curly coat resembles the grass behind her but it’s her copper eyes, filled with nice catchlights, that makes this image pop against her brown coat. You might just get to see her ‘live’ at Woof N Hoof! I’ll see you there!
